Medical Checkups are Now Covered Under Aasandha Scheme - 01 January 2024

Under the President's pledge to "Formulate and implement a special policy to facilitate medical check-ups twice a year for every citizen under the Aasandha Scheme", medical check-ups through all government health service centers have been arranged. The program aims to facilitate early detection and early treatment of major diseases, instill a culture of improving health and staying healthy, and building a generation focused on disease prevention through lifestyle changes.

From 1st January 2024, medical checkup services will be available through all government health centers and hospitals as shown in the table below.

-          For age group 50 and above, coverage will be available from 1st January 2024 onwards.

-          For age group 35-49 and under 19, coverage will be available from 1st April 2024 onwards.

-          For age group 19-34, coverage will be available from 1st April 2024 onwards.

Medical checkup coverage for kids under 19 will be available from 1st April 2024, after revising the “School health screening program”. Those who need to have two medical check-ups within a year, depending on the circumstances around them, can have a second medical check-up upon a doctor’s recommendation. More details on this are mentioned in the "Rules on Provision of Additional Services under Aasandha Scheme" by National Social Protection Agency, NSPA.

Registration for medical checkups will be open from 1 January 2024 at any government health facility (island health centers, atoll and regional hospitals, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Hulhumale’ Hospital and Villimale Hospital). Please visit or contact the nearest government facility to make an appointment for the service.
