Aasandha Scheme Overview

Aasandha Scheme was a universal health scheme which was initially introduced in 2012, with an annual  cap of MVR 100,000 per person per year. 

Husnuvaa Aasandha was then introduced by the Government of Maldives in February 2014, with the aim of promoting affordable and accessible health care for all Maldivian nationals without limitations.

The scheme includes cover for: 

  • Both inpatient and outpatient treatments and medication
  • Diagnostics and surgical interventions
  • All transportation fees of emergency cases
  • Annual medical check-up for those above the age of 30 and below the age of 18
  • Routine Antenatal pregnancy check-ups
  • Optical coverage
  • Mental Health and other Therapy related services
  • Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and IVF
  • Yearly Medical checkup
  • Ambulance coverage for specific criteria 

Every Maldivian with a National Identification Card or Passport card have access to unlimited health care for all medical services prescribed and recommended by medical doctors, without paying any fee at any public health facilities. The scheme is fully financed by the Government; implemented and managed through Aasandha Company Limited.

Furthermore, all medications prescribed by a doctor that are included in the scheme's approved list will be provided free of charge through Aasandha-empanelled pharmacies, including both government-owned and private pharmacies.
