The "Husnuvaa Aasandha" scheme has further expanded its ambulance services to ensure more accessible and convenient healthcare logistics for the public.
With this new decision, effective from 1st April 2026, citizens will be able to utilize ambulance services through Aasandha in accordance with the set guidelines. This is a significant initiative by the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to strengthen the healthcare sector and provide a solution to the financial burdens faced by citizens in transporting patients during medical emergencies.
Ambulance services under the Aasandha Scheme are scheduled to be provided under specific criteria. The situations eligible for this service include:
- Emergency medical transport.
- Transportation of deceased individuals via ambulance.
- Transporting bedridden patients for outpatient services.
- Transporting wheelchair-bound individuals and persons with disabilities (including physical, mental, Autism, and Down Syndrome) for outpatient services.
- Inter-facility transfer of admitted patients for further specialized care or testing.
- Transporting patients to jetties or airports for medical evacuations or overseas referrals.
- Transporting Thalassemia patients for outpatient medical consultations.
To facilitate this expansion, the relevant regulations have been formulated, and all necessary administrative arrangements have been completed in collaboration between Aasandha Company and healthcare institutions.
Aasandha envisions that this change will provide immense convenience to the public, particularly those living in the atolls, and will offer significant relief from the financial difficulties associated with patient transportation.
