How can I apply for welfare assistance?
Submit the required documents, including medical reports, ID cards, and completed welfare forms, through our myAasandha portal or at Vira counters. Submission may also be made via an email to [email protected].

Who is eligible to apply for welfare assistance?
Eligible individuals are those who meet the criteria set by the scheme, typically based on medical necessity and financial need.

What types of assistance are available under the Welfare Scheme?
Assistance includes:
- Assistance in addition to Aasandha Assistance
- Medical welfare assistance
- Prosthetics or medical implant
- Medical devices or machinery
- Medicines not available in the Maldives
- Medical emergency (for treatments not covered under Aasandha scheme)
- Others.

Where can I get the latest welfare or medical device forms?
Forms are available on Aasandha official website, the NSPA website, and at Aasandha counters.

What documents are required when submitting a Welfare case?
Below are the documents generally required:
- Medical welfare form
- Medical documents of past 1 year (prescriptions, scans reports, lab reports etc)
- Patient’s ID card (both sides)
- Applicant’s ID card (if someone applies on behalf of the patient, both bides).
- Kharadhu Thafseel, Details (Paid Bills) of previously provided financial aid under welfare
Requirements can vary depending on the type of assistance requested, such as overseas medical treatment or assistive devices.

How can I check the status of my case?
Call 1400 and provide the patient's National ID number and full name, or else mail to [email protected] the details. A representative will give you an update on your case status.

Can I change my hospital after a case has been approved?
Yes. Send an email to [email protected] with your reason for the hospital change. Make sure to verify if the required treatment is available at the Aasandha empaneled hospital, before proceeding.

What is a Consent Letter, and when is it required?
A Consent Letter is a document signed by the patient or their guardian, confirming they understand and agree to the treatment plan.
Generally, it is required if the patient requests to receive treatment at a different hospital than the one approved for the case. -
Can I resubmit a case for reconsideration; that was previously rejected?
For welfare cases, you can resubmit with a letter/mail requesting reconsideration.

How can I request reconsideration or additional assistance for a case?
Submit your request via email or letter to [email protected] with detailed reasons for reconsideration or additional help needed.

How long does it take for a case to be reviewed or approved?
Welfare cases may take longer depending on the number of cases.

How will I be notified once my case is approved or if additional documents are required?
Once a decision is reached, you will receive an SMS from 1400 to the phone number provided during submission. If additional documents are required, a separate notification will be sent.

How do I request a meeting regarding my Welfare case?
Contact 1400 or send an email to [email protected] with all patient details and reason. The relevant department will then schedule a meeting and contact you with the appointment details.

What is the Date of Admission (DOA), and when is it needed?
The DOA is the planned date for the patient’s hospital visit for treatment. It is needed once the patient checks seat availability from Maldivian Holidays.

What happens after a DOA is given?
After seat availability is confirmed through Maldivian Holidays, the patient’s party informs calling 1400. We will then prepare and send all necessary documents required to Maldivian Holidays for issuing tickets.

How can I confirm if my travel tickets have been issued?
Maldivian Holidays will email the tickets directly to the patient party.

What can I do if my ticket date has passed due to any delays from my side?
Once the ticket has been issued, patient party must contact the airline and make the necessary date changes; patient party has to bear any charges for ticket date change.

What should I do if my travel is cancelled or needs to be rescheduled after ticket issuance?
Once the ticket is issued, patient party is responsible for updating the travel dates directly with the airline.

How long does it take for visa confirmation from the embassy?
You should contact the relevant embassy directly for visa status updates.

Can Aasandha provide documentation to support visa applications?
Yes. We can issue a case approval letter upon request to assist with your visa process.

What is a MEDI Form (Medical Information Form), and when do I need to fill it?
MEDI Form is a form providing the details for special assistance like wheelchair, oxygen, stretcher, or ventilator support. It must be filled out by a licensed medical doctor, MEDIF is required to secure airline travel clearance.

How do I apply for Medical Assistance on the Flight (MEDIF)?
- Submit a completed MEDIF for the specific airline. The form must be filled and signed by a licensed doctor and stamped by the hospital.
- Send a clear color scan of the completed form via email or submit it in person at the Aasandha counter. A detailed medical condition letter must also be included.
- The MEDIF must state “Fit to Fly” and clearly specify any required special assistance, such as a wheelchair, oxygen (include litres and whether continuous), stretcher, or ventilator.

How can I check the approval status of my MEDIF?
By contacting Aasandha call centre 1400.
Aasandha will share your MEDIF with Maldivian Holidays. You will be contacted by phone or email when Maldivian Holidays provide an update. -
Can a child below the age of 18 travel with a bystander’s ticket?
No. Bystander accompanying patient should be 18 years and above.

How long does it take for welfare approval in island transfer cases?
Aasandha will consider island transfer cases as urgent and welfare team will be notified to prioritize such cases.

How is the mode of transfer decided, by sea or air ambulance?
Depending on the case and the patient condition welfare team will decide the mode of transport.

Why is the approved amount for the device lower than the quotation?
There are fixed amounts for assistive devices under welfare, if PO amount exceeds approved amount, a financial assistance will be provided.

What is the estimated time for the approved amount to be deposited?
Payments are processed sequentially upon approval; there’s no specific guaranteed time.

Are emergency cases prioritized for faster processing?
Yes. Emergency cases are notified to the team; however, processing time still depends on the current case volume.

When is the Medical Device Form required?
The Medical Device Form is required only if the patient is recommended to use an oxygen machine, CPAP, or BiPAP machine.

Can someone apply on behalf of a patient who cannot sign (elderly, too weak or admitted) the welfare or device form?
Yes. The applicant can sign the form on behalf of the patient and must note the reason for the patient's inability to sign.

Can a family representative apply and sign for welfare assistance on behalf of a patient?
A family member can apply on behalf of patient, only applicant needs to sign welfare form.

What is an Account Verification Slip, and what details must it include?
An Account Verification Slip confirms the bank account details and must include:
- Account Holder's Name
- Account Number
- Currency Type
- Bank’s Logo
Accepted types of account verification slips include:
- Transfer slip showing money trans-ferred to the account (Including the account name and number).
- Screenshot of online banking app displaying account holder’s name, account number, currency (MVR), and bank logo
- First page of the bank statement
- Deposit slip indicating a deposit into the specified account
- Bank Cheque

Can welfare funds be deposited into a family member’s bank account?
Yes. In such cases, the Bank Authorization form should be filled and submitted through My Aasandha Portal. (If the account is not in the name of the patient or the applicant).
In case of manual form, bank account details should be filled and submitted with the case (relation to the patient must be mentioned). -
What if the patient does not have a bank account?
The application should be made on behalf of a family member with a bank account. Funds can only be deposited into the patient’s or the applicant's account.

What should I do if the deposit is delayed after financial assistance approval?
Contact our Finance team through our Hotline (1400) or email to inquire about the status of the payment.

Why does financial aid get approved when we apply for treatment and tickets?
The welfare team assesses each case to decide the appropriate assistance based on medical need and eligibility. A case may be resubmitted for reconsideration of the assistance provided.

Is it possible to get welfare support for fertility treatments such as IVF or IUI?
Yes. Welfare provides financial aid (food, accommodation and tickets) for patients undergoing IVF or IUI treatments.

Can I apply again for IVF aid within the same year?
No. Welfare provides financial aid (food, accommodation and tickets) for patients once per year.

Does the welfare scheme provide assistance for prosthetic limbs?
Yes, the scheme provides financial aid for prosthetic limbs.

Are medicines not covered under Aasandha eligible for financial aid through welfare?
Coverage will be decided based on the documents provided for medications, the submitted document must include a prescription. (within 30 days validity from the issued date)

Can welfare assistance be applied for while receiving treatment abroad?
Yes. If the patient faces financial difficulties during overseas treatment, they can apply for assistance.

How are welfare applications prioritized when multiple requests are received?
Emergency cases are given priority based on the medical documents and notified to the team. The processing depends on the volume of cases received.

Can funds be deposited to a family member’s account if the patient cannot operate an account?
Funds can only be deposited into the patient's or the applicant’s bank account. To do so, the application form must be updated and submitted in the name of the account holder.

What should I do if the patient/applicant needs to change the account holder for information?
Submit amended bank form along with supporting documents to update the bank account details.

Will financial assistance be deposited in MVR or USD?
The assistance will be deposited in Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR).

Are deposits made directly to vendors or patients?
Financial aid will be deposited to patients based on the bank form submitted.
Vendors must submit an invoice along with the PO provided with the patient's signature for the medical assistive device, and the payment will be processed accordingly.
